MEB Design Director Charles Darby and Associate Maggie Forrester from our Oxford office joined a wildflower meadow / scything workshop in Wendlebury churchyard last week, as part of the Eco Church initiative, and also a joint effort across the wider Akeman Benefice. Advice and help was given by KWACS (Kirtlington Wildlife & Conservation Society).
Scything has many advantages over mowing when managing wildflower areas: it creates less noise and pollutants, it promotes mental and physical health, it’s better for creating micro-habitats because of uneven cutting, the slower pace gives time for bugs and animals to escape, gives cleaner cuts, and it’s easier to rake up arisings afterwards for better wildflower management.
MEB Design is passionate about our role in supporting a sustainable world, and participating in workshops like this one gives us some of the experience and knowledge to help our clients achieve their sustainability visions and goals.
