Christ Church Ware is a Victorian Grade II Listed church. The building was hindered by substandard facilities, and asked MEB Design to propose a thorough refurbishment and upgrade. The aim was the creation of a large flexible and comfortable meeting place for worship in the existing space, seating upward of 300 people. Key features included: installation of a mezzanine gallery to provide for larger numbers, accessed by a stunning contemporary glazed spiral staircase. Provision of WCs and kitchen. Installation of underfloor heating to allow a new controllable, effective, and efficient heat distribution system, and a new flexible lighting scheme to cater for different uses. Installation of PA and AV and a permanent unobtrusive media centre, together with new electrical / water and media services.

The project was delivered on time and under budget. The church has been transformed in many ways, and the client and the congregation are very happy with the finished result. It is now more welcoming and accessible to passers-by, but more importantly the inefficient and cluttered interior has been upgraded to an elegant and functional multi use space serving not only the traditional congregation, but also the wider community by making spaces available for events.
